if complaints are persistent and

non-invasive treatments were not effective

surgery might be indicated

Meralgia paresthetica is a condition characterised by tingling, numbness and burning pain in the outside of the thigh.

It occurs when the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve is compressed as it leaves the pelvis.

At the Leiden Nerve Center we developed a novel surgical technique resulting in high satisfactory rates

DYNAMIC DECOMPRESION OF THE PAINFUL NERVE

This technique has been developed over years and is published in the Journal of Neurosurgery.

We treat 30 patients a year with MP and our evaluation in 150 patients shows a success rate in pain reduction of 93% and restoring sensation of the thigh in 81%.

The publication on the first 20 patients can be read here:

"Dynamic decompression is an effective technique to treat Meralgia Paraesthetica. Most patients become completely pain free and sensation recovers considerably"
